Principal's Message

Ricardo BrownWelcome to Tracy High School Alternative Programs, Home of The Saints!  My name is Ricardo Brown and I am beginning my fifth year as Principal of Tracy. Prior to my arrival at Tracy, I was the Principal at Ross Academy Middle School in ABC for nine years.  Before coming to Ross and ABC, I was an Assistant Principal at Rancho Santa Margarita Intermediate School and Laguna Hills High School in the Saddleback Valley Unified School District.  My experience as a teacher was in the Garden Grove Unified School District at Santiago High School and Jordan Intermediate School.  My career in education is also a second career for me as I previously played professional basketball for 10 years in the Philippine Basketball Association and was a student-athlete at Pepperdine University in Malibu.  I am very blessed to have this opportunity to be the Principal at a great school like Tracy with a super dedicated staff who cares deeply about the well-being and success of our students. Many of our students have hit a bump in the road at a very young age in their lives, but we are convinced that all of our kids are loaded with unlimited potential and can achieve at a high level.  Our job here at Tracy is to help them get back on track to graduate on time, develop some good work habits that will be of benefit to them not only in school but also later in their adult lives, academically challenge them in every subject area, and prepare them to be successful post-high school in whatever career pathway they may choose.

Tracy High School continues to be the center of the ABC Unified School District’s offerings for alternative education for secondary school students in grades 10-12. Tracy is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and offers core academic programs and personal attention to students who are behind in credits and potentially at risk of dropping out of school.  Tracy was recognized as a 2019 California Model Continuation School and has applied again this year for this prestigious award.  We should have an official visitation sometime before Winter Break and a decision from the visiting committee after the new year.  The 2022-2023 school year is also a WASC accreditation year with their official visit scheduled in late April.

One of the best ways to stay in tune with Tracy is through our social media pages, Facebook, Instagram, and our school website.  We believe in recognizing the great things that happen every day at Tracy and our social media pages feature our wonderful students and how they are thriving at THS!  Classes at Tracy focus on the courses required for graduation along with offering smaller class sizes and a friendly, relaxed campus environment that encourages student achievement, peer collaboration, and personal and team involvement in the entire school endeavor.  All students are individually counseled and are aware of their current credit status and their academic plan for credit recovery to graduate on time, and the students work closely with their counselors to develop a plan after graduation.

Tracy is the only high school in the District with a Teen Parent Program for pregnant and parenting teens. This program is open to all ABCUSD students and specializes in prenatal health, childbirth, and parenting. Tracy also has Career Technical Education (CTE) courses available to students in Medical Careers and Multi-Media.  The Multi-Media pathway includes our KTHS-TV Broadcast station that broadcasts the weekly 'Morning News' produced and directed by our students under the direction of Ms. Shelley Richey.  Tracy High School is now officially a 1:1 high school with electronic devices (Chrome Books and iPads) available to all students in every classroom.  Classrooms contain multiple media capabilities including 80" big screen TVs, Laser Projector, Elmos. and many other cutting edge technology tools.  One very special offering at Tracy High School Alternative Programs is the Dual-Enrollment program led by teacher Mr. Anthony Ota and his elective class called Futures.  Students enrolled in this class will be counseled by Mr. Ota regarding the many intricacies of transitioning from High School to Community College, and a majority of our Futures students will be enrolled in college courses through either Cerritos College and/or Long Beach City College and earn both high school and college credits at the same time.  Many of our students will have several college credits under their belt when they graduate from Tracy in June of 2023!

In closing, we are fully aware that a continuation high school is not usually the first choice for families of high school students to continue their education, but I assure you that your child is in good hands here at Tracy and the opportunity to gain a quality education and recover credits to get back on track to graduate on time is available to all students if they apply themselves and make their education a priority.  The recipe for success here at Tracy is simple:  have consistent daily attendance, be on time for each and every class, and give your best effort to produce quality work in the classroom.  Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns or needs for your child.  Always know that we are here for the good of our kids.  Take good care, and as always... Go Saints!
